Prof. Xu Zongling Awarded Guangdong “May 1 Labor Medal”

       Professor Xu Zongling, Dean of Business School at Shantou University, was awarded the “May 1 Labor Medal” for Guangdong Province. On April 29th, Prof. Xu Zongling attended the Shantou Municipality May Day Celebration, City Workers' Song and Dance performance, and the Bagatelle Contest Awards Show. Shantou Party Secretary Huang Zhiguang and Mayor Cai Zongze attended the party, as well, and presented the prizes for National Model Workers and winners of the Provincial May 1 Labor Medal. 

      Prof. Xu Zongling is devoted to the teaching of basic undergraduate courses and professional courses for postgraduates. Because of her outstanding work, she was awarded the Li Ka Shing Foundation Outstanding Teaching Award and the title of "Excellent Teacher of South Guangdong” in 2004, and in 2008 she received first prize for Teaching Achievement at Shantou University. She has chaired and completed several research projects at national, provincial and ministerial levels, along with enterprise funded projects. She also guided the Institute of Taiwan Studies at Shantou University in conducting joint research programs with national, provincial and municipal departments. The research findings of the Institute were used by relevant departments and adopted in the planning of the Western Taiwan Straits Economic Zone. 

       Since becoming Dean of the STU Business School, Prof. Xu Zongling has made great efforts in recruiting talent, optimizing student enrollment, training and employment, in order to encourage improvement in teaching and research. These efforts have helped keep the rate of first preference in enrollment and graduate employment at 100%. In 2007, the Business Administration program was listed among the First-Rate Specialties by the Ministry of Education. In 2008, the Business School joined the PACIBER and European Foundation for Management Development integrating it into the international network. In 2009, the School was approved to offer an MBA program, a demonstration that a platform to serve the local economy had been established.
